This week we began using the Doorman application for cell phones. The app locks the phone for the entire school day.

There are two alternatives to using Doorman. Students can choose to lock their phone in the Main Office or choose to leave their phone at home. Completing our cell phone attestation form is required for either of these options, as well as for students who do not have a cell phone.

This is the same cell phone policy we had last year. Thanks for helping us keep things running smoothly!

All lockers are currently claimed. Students who received a locker were sent an email confirmation with their locker number.

Students must use school-issued locks. Personal locks are not allowed and will be removed. Students are required to read and sign our locker agreement upon picking up their lock.

If your student did not receive a locker but would like to be added to the waitlist, please have them complete this form with their WPS email address.

Seniors who would like to register for the in-school SAT on October 15 must complete this registration form (students should be filling out this form themselves) by September 25 and pay the $60 fee by September 30. Students can pay with a check, made out to the City of Watertown, or through this online payment form. Checks can be brought to Ms. Quibaka or to a guidance counselor in the guidance office. 

Students who receive a fee waiver have a reduced registration fee of $8 and may only pay by check.

Today, during the first Advisory/Homeroom of the year, students in grades 10-12 received copies of their "Credit, Attendance, and Graduation Progress Wellness Reports". These reports are meant to give returning WHS students a snapshot of their progress towards meeting their graduation course and credit requirements and help them review last year's attendance. 

We used multiple data sources for these new reports, and while we strive to make them as accurate as possible, errors may occur. Students are encouraged to bring their questions to their guidance counselor or the attendance office - permanent, official records are maintained in PowerSchool. 

Translated versions of these wellness reports are available here. We hope that as students kick off the school year, they will use this wellness check to set goals for themselves, seek support if needed, and set themselves up for a successful year!

Any student interested in taking the November MCAS retest in English or Math to qualify for the Koplik Scholarship or Seal of Biliteracy should contact Ms. Eaton (Adrienne.eaton@watertown.k12.ma.us) or Mr. Dowd (ryan.dowd@watertown.k12.ma.us) by September 25.

We have four events coming up!

WPS offers both the unlimited pass and pay-as-you-go cards for the MBTA buses and subways.

Pay-As-You-Go cards work like a prepaid charge card. Money can be loaded onto the card at any MBTA kiosk. Students receive a discounted rate of 85¢ per bus ride and $1.10 per subway ride. Families need to first complete this form to request a card, as required by the MBTA. Once submitted, students can pick up their card in our main office. Supply is very limited right now. More cards will be available soon. 

The Unlimited Pass offers students unlimited access to the MBTA bus and subway for $30/month. It must be paid in two yearly installments of $150. Please contact wps_busing@watertown.k12.ma.us to request this card.

There is no student parking at the high school. Students can walk, bike, or use the MBTA bus to get to school (see above information). 

The City of Watertown enforces a two-hour street parking limit between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. In addition, the streets surrounding the school have no-parking restrictions from 7:00 to 9:00 AM, as indicated by posted signs.

Please remember that vehicles may not block driveways and must be parked at least 20 feet from intersections and street corners.

Our Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) works hard to create opportunities for our students and support our teachers. This year, they hope to expand their areas of support to more programs, activities, and student enrichment opportunities. In order to do so, there is a suggested donation of $25 per student. This is not required. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so online through their GiveButter page or by bringing a a check, made payable to the WHS PTSO, to our main office.

Join us this Saturday, September 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the Watertown Library’s Savings Bank Room for our district-wide welcome back to school event! This is a great opportunity to learn more about our schools.

Class dues are collected every year from every student. Dues are $15 with a $5 late fee collected after the deadline (announced by advisors). Payments can be made with cash, check, or online through ParentSquare (available soon). These dues go towards all class events, gifts, scholarships, and more. Students who have not paid their yearly dues will, unfortunately, be turned away from class events. If for any reason your family needs assistance with these dues, please connect with your student's class advisor. All information will remain confidential.
