WHS CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES 2026-2027

A CAPPELLA (The WaterTones): Watertown High’s advanced choral ensemble – usually with no accompaniment.  We work on collegiate-style a cappella repertoire as well as additional challenging choral music.  All are welcome to come try it out, and a brief audition to confirm pitch-matching ability and range is required in order to join.

ALL CITY CHORUS 

 

ALL CITY ORCHESTRA: After school Orchestra open to all students 4-12th in Watertown. High school students act as mentors for our youngest students, and mentors can gain community service hours for their time. It’s a fun way to get connected with the orchestra community across schools and grades!

ARMENIAN CLUB: Join the Armenian Club to foster Armenian culture, make new friends, hold activities to promote Armenian issues, as well as fundraisers that benefit the Watertown Community and/or Armenia.  Meetings announced in Morning Announcements & Google Classroom.

A.S.I.A. Club: A.S.I.A. stands for Asian Students in Action. We strive to foster a stronger, more visible AAPI community at WHS, educate others about various Asian cultures, and support communities nationally.

BLACK STUDENT UNION (BSU): Join the BSU to make new friends, go on fun field trips, create lasting memories, learn about Black culture, and get involved with the community.

BRAZILIAN CLUB: Meet new people, eat, and learn about Brazilian culture. We meet every Thursday right before school in Room 119 to enjoy snacks, play games, and learn about Brazilian culture and entertainment!  You don’t have to be Brazilian or speak Portuguese to join.

CHORUS (Morning Chorus): Love to sing? We are starting the year learning the music for the FAPA New York trip in April, and then we will continue learning even more music.  No experience necessary.  You just have to want to sing in harmony with others.

CHESS CLUB: A stress-free club to play or learn how to play chess! Whether you are a chess grandmaster or have never played before, all are welcome. Come meet new people, take a break from technology and enjoy playing one of the world’s oldest games!

CoLAB Club: A club where we do science! Once a month we get together with a gaggle of local scientists from the surrounding area and do science experiments. COMMUNITY CLOSET CLUB: Need community service hours? Make them count. Join the Community Closet Club and help provide clean, organized clothing to people throughout the greater Watertown community. Club members will launder donated clothing, fold and organize items, sort donations, and help keep the Community Closet stocked and ready for those who need it. You’ll earn community service hours while doing hands-on work that directly supports people in our community. Help your community. Earn your hours. Make a difference.

DANCE CLUB: Learn different styles of dance while having an outlet to de-stress and meet other students. Small performances throughout the School Year to showcase work!

DEBATE & MOCK TRIAL CLUB: The Debate and Mock Trial Club aims to give students the opportunity to develop public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in a supportive and professional environment. Members will participate in debates and courtroom-style activities, learning how to build arguments, analyze evidence, and collaborate as a team. The club offers a hands-on introduction to legal reasoning and advocacy while helping students build skills that are valuable for any future path or career. All experience levels and interests are welcome.

DECA CLUB:  We will explore a variety of business-related topics. Specifically, management will practice role-playing and adjusting to changes as they occur. Our goal is to participate in the DECA year-end competition in Boston. All are welcome.

DRAMA CLUB: Most Friday’s 3:15 - 4:15, stops for performance rehearsals, and starts back up as often as students can attend (after the HS Musical) for Drama Club performance rehearsals. Students interested in meeting for after school drama, ending with a production of some sort by end of year. And students interested in talking about what they want to see in the future for the Drama department.

DRAMA - FALL PLAY :

DRAMA - SPRING MUSICAL : 

  • Audition Workshop - Typically M / T before thanksgiving break (After Play is finished)

  • Tech Week - Mandatory Rehearsals for longer periods of time - the 2 weeks leading into the shows

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: We play the tabletop fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons. Every session involves improv, problem solving, a little math, and a lot of dice.

EXPEDITION CLUB: We get together for various outdoor activities including nature walks, ice skating, museum visits, and more.

FEM-CO (Feminist Coalition): We get together and discuss feminist-related topics. These can be topics specific to the school, to the country, or to the world. We have speakers come in and discuss topics with us, EG how to report sexual assault in the building. We collect hygiene products and donate them to local shelters. We are also trying to increase accessibility to pads and tampons in the bathrooms.

GENDER SEXUALITY ALLIANCE: A place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to discuss issues surrounding sexuality and gender at Watertown High School and the Watertown community, promote better understanding of these issues to the student body as a whole, and do fun activities and fundraisers to help support the community.

GOOD MORNING BAND: This is a before school Rock Band opportunity. Each Monday we will rehearse as a group, exploring Rock, Pop, and other modern music styles in a safe space. No experience in a band is necessary, and motivated beginners can join and learn as they go!

HEALTH AWARENESS CLUB

To spread awareness of various diseases amongst our community, break the stigmas in our society, and normalize conversations regarding disease.

HELPING HANDS CLUB:  Building fun and interactive activities that are comprehensible to elementary school students with special needs. The majority of this club will be dedicated to brainstorming and creating these activities, however there are also community service opportunities where we can introduce our step by step projects to special education students at the various elementary schools in Watertown.

HIGH PERFORMANCE BUILDING (HPB) INNOVATORS CLUB:  Students will explore, innovate, and invent within the realm of HPBs with a focus on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).  This club will integrate topics and activities from architecture, engineering, environmental science and construction into the residential construction process to provide solutions that will advance High Performance Building integration into Accessory Dwelling Units which are part of the solution to provide additional affordable housing for Watertown and surrounding communities.  

 

The club will leverage industry professionals to support the HPB Innovators Club to help kick-start and extend students’ professional network and provide career development and option curriculum.  Club members will develop and implement concepts and innovations/inventions using the Lemelson-MIT Invention Process with direct support from MIT.  Club members will construct prototypes for their innovations and/or inventions to demonstrate functionality and preparation for presenting at the MIT EurekaFest in June 2027.

INTERACT CLUB: This club is a nationally recognized high school organization affiliated with the Rotary Club. We are student-led and with a focus on community service. Learn more about the Rotary Organization.

JAZZ BAND: In jazz band, we explore the basics of improvisation, play big band charts for concerts, and play for the MICCA festival! Jazz band rehearses from 7:20-8:00am every Tuesday, Wednesday, and THursday. All levels are welcome from beginners to experts, and all instruments are welcome from saxophone to didgeridoo.

KINGIAN CLUB: Kingian club has a mixture of discussions/actions/trainings around Kingian nonviolence. Students work actively to create the community they want to live in here at WHS and in Watertown more generally.

LATINX HARMONY CLUB: This club is made to bring the Latino community together at WHS so the students can have a safe space where they can connect, feel welcome, and share the love and pride for their cultures. The students create projects, such as raising money to donate to Hispanic communities and coming together with other organizations, etc.

MATH CLUB: Explore interesting math topics outside the standard curriculum and practice solving American Mathematics Competition (AMC) problems.

MEDICAL CLUB: The WHS Medical Club looks to foster the interests of students who are looking to work in the medical field. We do hands-on activities such as basic first aid skills, mock surgical procedures, learning to check vital signs, suturing and how to properly don personal protective equipment. We host informational sessions on medical careers, education requirements and core classes to focus on in high school and college. We also take part in community service projects such as making cards for the elderly in our community.

 

MODEL UN: Students attend conferences with other schools- Conferences simulate deliberation and discussion seen at the United Nations

MUSLIM STUDENT ASSOCIATION

The club focuses on community, culture, and connection. MSA brings students together for fun events, volunteer projects, and great conversations. MSA is open to everyone, whether you're Muslim or just curious to learn and hang out.

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY: National Art Honor Society Programs support student members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service.

PROFESSIONAL WRITING CLUB: This club is meant to create a space where students of all grade and skill levels can come discuss and workshop their professional writing with peers and teachers. These pieces could include college essays, resumes, business emails, essays/writing for academic classes and more!

ROBOTICS TEAM: Learn engineering, teamwork, and leadership skills to design, build, program a 100lb competition robot with no experience required! Compete with teams from around New England to qualify for the New England District Championship.

ROCK CLIMBING CLUB: Interested in climbing the school’s rock wall and other climbing elements. We can also explore other climbing opportunities.

SOCIAL BUTTERFLIES: The goal of the Social Butterflies is to create an environment and opportunities where students with disabilities can come together with their peers, making connections, building friendships, and participating in meaningful social activities. It is our hope that the connections made develop into meaningful friendships and lead to expanded social opportunities for students who would not typically experience them. It is also the clubs' goal to expand throughout the district and be present in every school.

SOCIAL NETWORK: Social Network is a club that brings together students from diverse backgrounds and classes to socialize and participate in activities. The goal is to provide students an opportunity to connect with one another in a safe and accepting space to build relationships and create a welcoming community across the high school.

SPIRIT COMMITTEE: The goal of the Spirit Committee is to unify the students of Watertown high by providing opportunities for engagement with the larger student body and within their own graduating classes. Students who join the Spirit Committee work on events such as talent shows, pep rallies, spirit weeks, Homecoming, and other dances or fundraising events.

TEACHER APPRECIATION CLUB: The Teacher Appreciation Club is to recognize everything teachers do that often goes unnoticed. Every day, teachers put in time and effort not just to teach, but to support and guide their students, even outside of class. A lot of the time, that work doesn’t get acknowledged as much as it should. This club is meant to change that by making appreciation something we do regularly, not just once a year.

THE HISTORY OF HORROR IN FILM CLUB: This club explores the history of horror films from the early 1900s to the present. Students will watch and discuss a variety of horror films while examining the filmmaking techniques, themes, and social and cultural issues reflected in the films. The club will explore how horror has evolved over time and how films often reflect the fears and concerns of the era in which they were made.

WATERTOWN YOUTH COALITION: We're rebranding, and we need your help! The Watertown Youth Coalition is transforming into a space for ALL Watertown high schoolers to connect, be in-the-know about youth programs and events in school and around town, and to bring mental health events and assemblies back to WHS! WGBH HIGH SCHOOL QUIZ SHOW: Come put your useless trivia knowledge to use and get the chance to represent WHS at GBH Studios’ High School Quiz Show! We will do trivia and gather lots of random knowledge, and send a team of 4 to compete in the preliminary round in November. If selected, we would go on to compete in the televised show in the spring.

WOMEN IN STEM: We introduce students to out of school programs and highlight different STEM courses at WHS and the steps required to excel in class. We also discuss and acknowledge women in STEM fields and focus on career pathways to take after high school!

WORD PAINTER: Word Painter is the Literary Magazine of Watertown High School. Students publish original poetry, short stories, photographs, graphic design, painting and drawings both online and in print, ending the year with a full length spring edition.

YOGA CLUB An opportunity to participate in yoga practice for anyone and all levels! Students are welcome to practice mindfulness, unwind, and physical movement through stretching and strength training. Together we will build health habits linking breath to movement in our practice.
