STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

GRADUATION!

Congratulations once again to our Class of 2026 graduates!! We loved celebrating your incredible accomplishments and can't wait to see what your futures hold. Don't forget to come back to say hello and remember, once a Raider, always a Raider!

You can see more photos and highlights from the night in Matt McCarthy's Graduation Newsletter.

BOSTON GLOBE TECH SUMMIT

Last week Mr. Cooke along with seven students participated in the Boston Globe Tech Summit in downtown Boston. They learned about the past, present, and future of technology in Boston and beyond from expert panelists of CEOs, climate gurus, university presidents, and homegrown Boston startup leaders. Panels ranged from how AI is being used to improve public safety to the future of driverless cars. Special thanks to John Vitti of the Boston Globe for providing the invitation!

HARVARD CCB INAUGURAL VISIT

Harvard University's Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology's (CCB) Undergraduate Teaching team welcomed Ms. Hannon, Ms. Hassan, and their AP biology students for the inaugural visit of their new CCB Advanced Teaching Labs K-12 Outreach Program! Students visited an X-ray crystallography lab, engaged in a private lecture from a Harvard chemistry professor on biochemistry reactions involved in photosynthesis, and then used virtual reality headsets to manipulate and measure chemical components of a chlorophyll molecule. We are grateful to Harvard for inviting us to participate in this experience. For more details about our visit, check out the article Harvard published highlighting the day!

PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT

The sophomore and junior class hosted their 2nd Annual Pickleball Tournament last Friday at the Arsenal Park courts! This year, 26 teams participated in the tournament, competing for the coveted title of Watertown Pickleball Champions. Congratulations to our recently graduated students Nash Goldstein and Eddie Arskaryan, team Court Captains, for their victorious win! Our students extend a huge thank you to the Watertown Recreation Department for their help in organizing this event.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

The last day of school is next Wednesday, June 24! Students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM.

Below is our final exam schedule! Attendance is mandatory for all scheduled exam blocks across all courses, except study halls. Students without a make-up exam will be dismissed at 12:00 PM tomorrow and next week on Monday and Tuesday. Please note that school buses will run at 12:00 PM only on these days and will not be available at 3:05 PM. Students staying for a make-up exam who rely on school transportation should make alternative arrangements.

SUMMER WORK AND READING SUGGESTIONS

Summer Work
All of our core, AP, and some VHS courses have required summer work! Please review the summer work document that includes links to all course materials.

Ms. Piazza's Reading Suggestions
Looking for some book suggestions for the summer? Check out the Mass Teen Book Choice Award Nominees! Pick a book to read now and then help choose a winner in the fall. Many of these books are available as ebooks or audiobooks on Sora.

Watertown Free Public Library Summer Reading
All Watertown community members are invited to participate in the WFPL's summer reading program! Print or grab a gameboard at the library and win prizes as you complete the challenges!

COURSE APPEALS AND CLASS SCHEDULES (2026-2027)

We know - you want your class schedule for next year! Please be patient with us as there are many components that go into creating class schedules. Students will receive an email when their schedule is available on PowerSchool, typically about a week before school starts. Paper copies of students' schedules will be distributed on the first day of school.

School Counselors return to WHS on August 24. During this time, our counselors review and finalize student schedules. If you email your counselor during the summer, please do not expect a reply until August 24.

As a reminder, requests for schedule changes can be difficult once the schedule has been built, so students must review their course requests carefully now. Any schedule changes must be made prior to the first day of school OR between the 8th and 14th day of school.

Course Appeals
All course appeals should be completed by the last day of school using the Course Recommendation Appeal Form. Please note that appeals submitted after the last day are less likely to be approved. For detailed information about course appeals, please refer to the information shared by Mr. Dowd last week on ParentSquare.

SUMMER SUPPORT

Even though school isn't in session over the summer, we are still here to support you! Our main office summer hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Unless otherwise communicated through ParentSquare, please assume that our offices are located in the Moxley building. Please feel free to come in person (we'd love to see you), call us (617-926-7760), or send an email. Some things you might need over the summer include...

All students under 18 who have a job in Massachusetts are required to have a work permit. Students must first complete the work permit application and then submit it to their school to receive their final permit. Students can bring in their completed application in-person or scan/take an image of the application and email it to Hope Sulzman: hope.sulzman@watertown.k12.ma.us.

Charlie Cards
Students who need a Student Charlie Card should complete this Pay-As-You-Go card request form. Once submitted, students can come to Moxley to pick-up their card.

There are no school buses for high school students once we move into our new building. However, students can sign-up for a reduced fare Student Charlie Card which is valid on MBTA buses and trains. Families can choose between an Unlimited Pass or Pay-As-You-Go card. For more information on both of these options, please review our Charlie Card informational document or the WPS Bus page on the district's website.

COUNSELING DEPT. SUMMER RESOURCES

Rising Seniors
The school counseling team has compiled this Post-High School Planning Workbook for rising seniors that includes optional steps for students to prepare for future planning. While these are optional, it is beneficial to start thinking about your plans over the summer so that we can hit the ground running in the fall!

Junior Future Planning
MEFA, the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority, recently shared this timeline that shares tasks for students to complete throughout junior and senior year. The Post-High School Planning Workbook above includes resources related to the timeline tasks.

PSAT/SAT
Please see this test-preparation resource, created by our school counseling team, to access SAT preparation materials, testing information, and exam-day expectations. If you have any questions, please reach out to the counseling office.
