STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

STEM NIGHT

Thursday’s 2nd Annual Community STEM Night, hosted by the Watertown Business Coalition and our schools, was a tremendous success! With 225 attendees, the evening was buzzing with energy, learning, and discovery.

Three panels were offered to attendees discussing our Freight Farm, clean energy, and updates on Watertown's life sciences. There were also interactive exhibits from local businesses, WHS STEM graduates, and many Watertown High School programs!

Adding to the evening’s success, the WHS Culinary Arts students, led by Chef Marston, did an outstanding job catering the event.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard on this event and to all of our participants!

SILS WINNERS

Each year, two juniors from each Middlesex League school are chosen to win the prestigious Middlesex League SILS Award. The award goes to juniors that have best shown the SILS qualities of Scholarship, Integrity, Leadership, and Service. This year's winners were Aisling Brennock and Myron Smolianov. We attended a luncheon with the league principals and other winners. Congratulations and thank you for all you do for the WHS community.

MODEL UN WINNING STREAK

Before break, our Model UN team competed at the Winchester MUN IX conference! If you've been following their updates, they are on a winning streak this year!! Their awards at this conference were:

  • Diplomatic Commendation: Carson Beale and Paavni Chawla
  • Honorable Mention: Jennie Mosca and Sarine Tomarci
  • Outstanding Delegate: Julie Pipitone
Congratulations to our students and thank you to Mr. Mastro and Ms. Beall for their tremendous efforts!

WATERTOWN HELPS OUT

As a reminder, all students are required to complete 36 hours of community service, over four years, to graduate!

Recent volunteer opportunities have been shared in the morning announcements and the Community Service Google Classroom (join code: kevmxwm). Additionally, the Watertown Community Foundation is hosting its 12th annual Watertown Helps Out event for the entire month of May!

With the support of local company sponsors and the City of Watertown, community service projects throughout the month will connect people who live and work in Watertown to nonprofits in need of help.

There are currently more than 400 volunteer opportunities available! Volunteer opportunities include sorting clothing donations for Eco Fest, staffing the Watertown Community Paddle and Herring Fest, clean-up of the Watertown–Cambridge Greenway, assembling hygiene kits for people experiencing homelessness, planting Memorial Day flags at local cemeteries, sprucing up the Miyawaki forest, painting faces at Watertown Pride, and much more! New projects will continue to be added throughout May.

Sign up today at https://signup.com/go/uDCBscE to volunteer in our community!
