STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

STEM TRIP

The Women in STEM Club enjoyed a trip to Orna Therapeutics in Watertown! They toured the facility, met with scientists, and practiced using biotech equipment. Thank you for setting this up, Mrs. Hannon!

DIGITAL MEDIA PROJECTS

Students in Mr. Riley’s digital media classes have been hard at work! In his podcasting class, students recently interviewed Chef Marston, our culinary arts teacher, and Mr. Duffy, our boys’ lacrosse coach, instructional assistant, and former principal.

Chef Marston shared insights about his career and spoke about the upcoming Health and Wellness Fair on Friday, which he has been planning with colleagues. Mr. Duffy discussed his path in education and gave a preview of the upcoming lacrosse season. Use these links to watch Mr. Marston's and Mr. Duffy's interviews!

From Mr. Riley's digital video editing class, Gavin Russo recorded highlights during the health screening clinic our medical assisting students hosted for city employees at the Watertown Police Department! Using his recordings, he created a montage of the event.

If you have ideas for upcoming shows, send an email to Mr. Riley at michael.riley@watertown.k12.ma.us!

MATSOL TRAINING

Mr. Espada, Ms. Mundy, Ms. Telford, Ms. Wikner, and Ms. Kraemer recently attended the science and math Enhancing Grade-Level Instruction for All Through a Multilingual Lens training hosted by the Massachusetts Association of Teachers of Speakers of Other Languages (MATSOL). The training supports the DESE vision that all students should learn through grade-level curriculum that connects to their identities and uses evidence-based instructional practices (Massachusetts Association of Teachers of Speakers of Other Languages [MATSOL], n.d.). We are proud of our teachers for continually seeking out professional learning opportunities that help ensure all students can access challenging content and succeed in our classrooms.

MARCH MADNESS ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE

March Madness - Attendance Edition is back! As part of our ongoing commitment to highlighting the importance of daily school attendance, students are gearing up for a fun, month-long competition to see which team can achieve the highest daily, weekly, and overall monthly attendance rates. A special thank you to our ELA teachers for stepping up as “coaches” and helping to promote this friendly competition.

Last year, our highest monthly attendance rate of the semester was in March - and we’re excited to see our students rise to the occasion and aim even higher this March. Let the games begin!

WHS AND DISTRICT REPORT CARDS

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your student’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. Please review our report card and use this helpful guide for quick facts; translated versions are also available. For more information, you can email esea@doe.mass.edu or call (781) 338-3550.

Please see this letter for full details about our report card.

WPD PARKING ANNOUNCEMENT

STUDENTS! If you are parking on Bemis Street or the surrounding neighborhood, you need to park on only one side of the street to allow for emergency vehicles to pass. The WPD will be issuing tickets as necessary.

SHARE YOUR VOICE

Families, we need your help in developing our Portrait of a Graduate! Your perspective as a parent/guardian is critical. You know your student's strengths, needs, and dreams better than anyone and we want to hear your voice!

We would greatly appreciate if you took 10 minutes to complete our Portrait of a Graduate survey. The survey will ask you about the skills that matter most for your student's future, how well Watertown is currently preparing our graduates, and what we should prioritize moving forward.

Additionally, we are looking for parents/guardians who would like to attend our 90-minute virtual focus group session on Monday, March 30, at 6:00 PM. To sign up, please use the above survey or this sign-up form!

Thank you in advance for helping us shape the future of WHS graduates!
